MITIE takes a sustainable and collaborative approach to help the Gloucestershire Constabulary police the county in the 21st century.
Sustainability was a key issue when planning the new building, and our well known approach to providing sustainable solutions paid dividends with the inclusion of several major environmental initiatives.
The building boasts an underfloor heating and cooling system on the ground floor. 300 bore holes, reaching 100 metres into the earth, feed heat up to a plant room and heat pumps, controlled by a Building Management System, to provide hot or cold air. This energy saving system has lower long-term running costs than a conventional system.
An intelligent lighting system was installed, for a more cost-efficient and sustainable approach, as well as a Stormsaver rainwater recovery system which uses recycled water in the showers and WC facilities.
The sustainable practice we adopted proved so successful by MITIE that the building has been earmarked for a BREEAM rating of excellent.
