MITIE makes a splash with redevelopment of iconic building in Birmingham.
Employed on a design and build basis, we became involved with the renovation of Fort Dunlop at an early stage. All design aspects had to be considered sympathetically, resulting in the amalgamation of the qualities of the original building with simple new interventions.
Space for services at Fort Dunlop was limited due to no ceiling voids so the majority had to be concealed under the 510mm raised floor. This became the main thoroughfare for the mechanical and electrical services.
To ensure that tenants, guests and customers are kept comfortable, MITIE installed a constant temperature WR2 loop HVAC system. The system also links to the building’s water loop to transfer heating or cooling energy between them, allowing the units to offer incredibly efficient double heat recovery. The WR2 system, over 300% more efficient than a traditional chiller/boiler combination, maximises heat recovery to provide incredibly efficient energy usage.
